For example, instead of three big meals, make it five smaller ones. This way, your metabolism continues to work during the day and burn fat while it is at work.
Your next task is to cut down on your sodium. It is harder for some then others, depending on your current diet, but with a few substitutions here and there, anyone can do it. Instead of pre-packaged meat, you can purchase deli meat, which is much lower in sodium. Also, a few less frozen meals and a few more raw foods, with some fruits and vegetables, will make a huge difference.

You can start out with a couple hours a week, and as your energy increases, your time spent on that activity can increase. After only a short period of time, you will WANT to exercise more.
