Outdoor Christmas decorations are a big part of every Christmas season

. Aside from buying gifts for your loved ones and having a cozy Christmas dinner to enjoy on Christmas Eve, a lot of fun actually comes from the preparation work in anticipation of Christmas. In the weeks leading up to December, everyone is usually caught up with decorating their house interior, and sometimes forget about outdoor decorations which can really add a lot of neighbourhood atmosphere. There are actually many simple ornamental additions you can make to your outdoor area to spice up your Christmas. In this series of articles, we will discuss some basic ideas on how you can achieve that.

As with all tutorials, we always start from easy ones to kick-start your deco work. In this first article, you will learn how to make Christmas strips that hang below your roof. These can be considered extremely novice in difficulty so anyone can do it. Tools you need are a pair of scissors, your ladder (for climbing to the roof unless you are Kevin Garnett), 2-3 rolls of crepes paper (green, red and white makes for a nice Christmas color combination) and some masking tape.

To make the stripes, unroll your crepe paper to a suitable length that such it spans your whole roof length while having allowance for them to droop. A good gauge would be to unroll 1.5 to 2 times the length of your roof. Use your masking tape, stick them to the grooves of your roof at every 20 inches or so until you fill up your entire roof. Once you are done with one strip of color, do the same for other colors but make sure you stagger the distance between them slightly, so the three strips and overlapping one another.

And that's all it takes! If you have done it right, you should see a nice blend of Christmas colors lining up the base of your roof. Go try it out and hope you like it!
