Tips On How To Make A Great Pot Of High Quality Tea

Folk seem to believe that it is difficult to make a great cup of tea

, when it isn't. Over the generations the British have developed a reputation as great tea drinkers, and a cup of tea in England is a joy. It's not magic, just the acceptance of a few simple steps and principles which anyone can follow.

What you are going to do is to boil water, preferably not tap water in a kettle on the stove. Filtered or bottled water beats tap water every time for flavour. You will then use the teapot to actually make the tea, and these are two quite separate issues.

You heat the water in the kettle until it begins to boil, then you take the kettle off the heat and pour some water into the teapot. After that you shake the teapot around and pour the hot water out. This is the first and important stage because it will keep your tea hot for longer.

You now fill up the teapot with the rest of the boiling water. At this point you add either tea leaves, or teabags. Then leave the tea to stand for around 5 minutes maximum.

If you are using tea bags you should now remove them, if tea leaves are used they should be filtered out using a tea strainer as you pour the tea. You will need four tea bags for six cups, and a teaspoon of tea leaves per cup.

Whilst that is the mundane act of preparing and pouring tea, you must ensure that your tea is kept airtight in a box designed for the purpose or flavour will be lost. In my opinion there is no comparison betwen tea leaves and tea bags. Any tea addict will agree that tea leaves make far superior tea. The teabags they will tell you are scrapings off the floor!!

Another piece of advice is like the saying that you will never make a silk purse out of a sows ear. You can't make great tea with cheap tea. Spend some money, and then always refill the kettle with fresh cold water for each pot of tea. Old boiled water added to tea frankly tastes awful

The packet your tea came in will have written instructions, so follow them. Please do not add any sugar or for that matter milk until the very end, and then you will hopefully have made a great cup of tea.
