Tips To Help You Spot Wildlife On Your African Safari
The success of a safari is usually measured by the number of animals which you have seen during your safari holiday
. Many travellers venture to Africa for more than just an encounter with natures most iconic creatures, for most people it is their burning desire to be out on an adventure in the African wilderness.
I could think of nothing worse than to venture all the way to Africa on
safari. and to then not spot many animals, or the wildlife that youve dreamt of seeing whilst you have been planning your safari to Africa. Here are some tips which will help you maximise your wildlife viewing success.
Choose the right season Dependent upon what you wish to see, this will affect the time of year that you go on your
safari holidays.to Africa. For example in the dry season which is between May and October, this is the best time to see the big five animals (lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino) as the grasslands and the African bush are less dense and the watering holes attract a wide variety of animals, making it possible to see a vast amount of animals in one go.
The times of the dry season varies throughout Africa as in east Africa the dry season is between January and March and then from July until October. In Southern Africa the dry season runs from May and October.
Wear appropriate clothing do not wear bright, vibrant colours such as bright blues and pinks, the animals will be able to see you and this could affect the amount of animals that you see on your safari. It is also important to wear long sleeved tops and trousers whilst on safari to avoid being bitten by mosquitos, this will allow you to stay comfortable and warm whilst your on safari as the early morning safaris are often rather chilly.
Choose the correct time of day The very best time to spot game on safari is at either dusk or dawn. This is because at midday the sun is at its hottest and animals, similar to humans who prefer to seek shade of a tree to escape the hot sun, which are usually located far away from the roads.
Bring yourself a pair of binoculars game parks are vast in size and some are bigger than most European countries. Taking a light pair of binoculars will allow you to see a whole host of wildlife and you may even be able to see the animals before they get chance to see you.
Go on safari with a guide they will know exactly where to look and they are often in radio contact with other guides around the safari parks, which means that if one guide spots a great predator such as a lion killing its prey or a baby elephant and its family then they will let your party know so you will get to see it too. A guide can also assist you in identifying particular wildlife species which you may not be familiar with, which will add to your safari experience allowing you to understand and appreciate the African wildlife more.
