Tips and Tricks for Expo Vendors
Expos have been popular in the US for many years, in the past ten years, they have gained even greater popularity in the UK. For many businesses and fledgling entrepreneurs, expos are a great, low cost way to get the business name out and about in the light of public knowledge. There are some things you can do that will help in your expo experience that will not get you evicted from your flat because you spent all your money on the expo.
Low Cost Displays with Punch
There is a trend in expos to have high tech, motorized banners and displays these days. You would be correct to assume that such items are very costly. However, to think that you could not compete with such a flagrant flouting of finances would not be correct. Simple, direct, bright, and visible text and graphics will do a great job for 1/100th of the cost of the fancy techno stuff. Just remember to be consistent and as professional as your budget will allow. Using multiple layers and levels will also attract attention and add design flair to your booth or table.
Lighting, Lighting, Lighting
Estate agents will tell you that the three most important things are location, location, location. While lighting is probably not the most important thing in your expo display, it is definitely one thing you can do that will add visibility and drama to your display for a small investment. Light and shadow are the elements on the silver screen that add drama to a scene more than anything else does. Of course, music and soundtracks do their fair share of dramatic implication, but lighting is something you can do fairly cheaply. Inexpensive lights, placed strategically, will illuminate your products or display, and draw people's eyes to your location. If you want to get the most out of your money, don't forget to use lighting.
Multi-Media is Vogue
If you want to do things on a budget, then visit a local university and talk to the media arts department to see if you can arrange some sort of video project that you can run at your expo stand. You might be surprised what you can get free, along with added advertisement from the people working on your project. Having a continuously looped video playing at your display or table will add another dimension and attract more people. It will answer questions that people would ask and allows you to have fewer staff at the table than might be optimal.
K.I.S.S.
If you are not familiar with this acronym, it stands for Keep It Short and Simple. Don't get carried away with the amounts of materials, ads, banners, and products you bring to your expo display. It is a lot of work, and expense to go through that might not be necessary. In some cases, having too much available can put some people off. Remember, that which makes something valuable is its rarity or scarcity. Don't take this to the extreme either, but you should get the point. Keep things simple, keep things concise, keep things neat, and keep things on point.
