Tips for Testing the Polarizing and UV 400 Functions of Polarized Prescription Sunglasses
Tips for Testing the Polarizing and UV 400 Functions of Polarized Prescription Sunglasses
Polarized lens is a kind of lens with vertical special coating on it to filter the dazzling sunlight on the water surface, land or snow. They are made from synthetic resin that is as light and delicate as contact lenses. Polarized lens is light and not frangible, as well as can filter 99% of the reflective light and 99% of the harmful UV light. So it is optimum choice for outdoor sports such as driving, overseas activities, skating or fishing.
More and more people select polarized prescription sunglasses when buying sunglasses. But how to identify whether the polarized prescription sunglasses you purchased have polarizing and UV400 functions? Here I have a good suggestion for you:
Find a LCD display first, and then make the sunglass face with the screen horizontally. At this moment there is no change in the lens. After that, turn the sunglass to 45 degrees clockwise. When you find that the lens's color becomes darker, turn it again to normal. Such lens can be called polarized lens. However, if there is no change no matter how you turn the lens, you can judge that it is not polarized lens.
Additionally, the driving glasses should adopt polarized lenses as glares and UV radiation are the biggest troubles for your eyes while driving, which can be effectively eliminated only by polarized lenses. The following method can be used to simply test whether the lens has the UV resistance or has the UV 400 function.
Prepare a cash-check lamp and a $100 note. You can see the UV counterfeit mark when the note is exposed to the UV light. But if you use the lens with the UV 400 function, you will not see the counterfeit mark.
These two approaches above can be used to easily identify whether your sunglass has the functions of polarization and UV 400. For lenses without polarizing function, they will not do harm to your eyes, instead they only cause certain difference in the vision; but for lenses with UV 400 function, they will undoubtedly do great harm to your eyes. So it is very important for you to make sure your sunglass has both the two said functions.
