Taking a certified nursing assistant test can be a rigorous process. Before even taking the test, it's required that any applicant must take the course and complete certain hours of written and practical work. It's required by the state of Board of Nursing, that the student must take and pass the written part of the test, plus the review of hands on skills.

You must enroll in a CNA program that is currently in your state. This program can take as long as 51 hours of class time, and at least 24 hours of patient care experience. Depending on your location, this program can last for at least 6 weeks. Before applying for a course ensure that you have a GED or a diploma.

Once the program has finished, a letter will arrive in your mail box. This notice will explain the details of your test.

In preparation for the certified nursing assistant test, complete a sample test before the proper one. This test can be found online. These practice exams will have all the frequently asked questions about the exam, and will give you examples of the tasks that you must do for the hands on section of the exam, and will offer some study guides, to help you with the written part of the exam.

Prepare by doing some practice on the live part of the test. These can be taking someone's temperature, blood pressure, making your patients bed, and dressing someone who needs your assistants. Bring with you to the test, a pencil or a pen to write with, your ID and a watch.

The certified nursing assistants test will usually start off with the written part first. This will have at least 100 multiple choice questions, and it will take at least 2 hours to complete.

Next is the patient care test. Even though you wont know what you will need to do for the procedure, having a look at the sample test should help you with the task that you need to do on the exam. Follow the regulations for the test, this includes communication with your patient and washing your hands before you examine the patient. If you think you have missed a step, and realize in time you are able to stop the task and ask for a do over. You wont be penalized, for doing this as long as you do the second attempt correctly.
