Tips to Overcome Social Anxiety
Becoming self-conscious is something that can begin as far back as childhood. If your parents were strict or unemotional and if family life in general was not harmonious or angry then we leave our inner self and take our attention outside to gauge the difficult situations. This happens in order so we are able to guess what behavior will best keep us out of trouble.
In the end our attention gets permanently stuck outside of ourselves. And especially if our parents didn't pay any kind of attention to us, the observation becomes critical.
So the answer to the problem is what to do to bring your awareness back inside yourself and become your own best friend. This is easily done with a little bit of patience to create an anchor inside yourself.
To do this is to concentrate on something that is as simple as breathing. I know you do this automatically but this is a way to purposely breathe. Practice feeling your breath being drawn in through the nostrils passing all the little hair follicles as you then pass the air into your lungs and expand your chest. If you are feeling this exact level of detail, you are inside yourself not outside.
Do this gently in and out. This takes a little practice but believe me it can help. I find if I do this before going out this helps but if I am feeling a little self-conscious I can now just find a quiet place to go through this exercise and can then regain composure.
