. A common safety issue for any driver occurs unexpected but can be prevented. The issue concerns tires and without proper maintenance, a blown-out tire can wreak havoc on your vehicle, your safety, and the safety of other drivers sharing the road.

To prevent accidents and extra expense, drivers need to ensure their tires are up to par at all times. Here are some tips to help you maintain your Chevrolet tires all year long:

Proper Inflation Matters

Even if your tires are just below the inflation level recommended by the manufacturer, you can damage the tread of the tires, have a blow-out, or at least have a bumpy ride. Check your Chevrolet owner's manual to find the proper Psi number for your tires the head to the gas station to check the pressure and refill the depleted air. If you do a lot of driving in the Houston heat, be sure to check the pressure at least weekly

Clean Your Wheels

Between the road crime and the brake dust that accumulates on your tires regularly, you are risking the safety of your tires if you do not clean away the dirt. The debris collecting on your tires can actually melt to the rubber itself. Use a specially-formulated wheel cleaner to degrease your tires and rinse with cool water once a week. Your tires will look like new and last longer with regular cleaning.

Gauge Your Tread

The tread, or grooves, of a tire should not be allowed to wear down. Otherwise, you end up with bald tires, a definite safety hazard. Check with your local Texas Chevrolet dealership or with the Chevy dealers in your state to find out the laws regarding trend depth. Be sure to get your tires rotated regularly to keep wearing on the tires even.
