Tooth Health Basics
How much awareness do you have on your teeth, apart from the fact that they're situated
above your chin and under your nose? Here's what you should know on teeth. There are different kinds of teeth because each one serves a different function. Front teeth are also called, incisors. Apart from shoveling the food in, these are also the sharpest kind of teeth. The teeth you find along the corner of your mouth are the canine teeth. Long roots is a distinct feature of this kind of teeth which is also used in tearing or grasping food. Premolars are located just behind the canines and have a flat chewing surface used for crushing food. The ones that are bigger and with surfaces larger and flatter than the premolars are the molars. These are the ones that grind food into very small bits.
The tooth is made up of two basic parts: the crown and the root. The root, which is 66 percent of the length of the tooth is below the gum line while the crown is the one you see when you open you mouth. Every single tooth is made up by a special and distinct kind of tissue. The tooth is protected from the wear and tear of chewing by a durable covering known as the enamel. The dentin contains nerve fibers, supports the enamel and is also bone-like and yellowish. The central part which covers the blood, nerves and lymph vessels is called the pulp.
Pulps are the parts of teeth that transmit signals to the brain and ensures the teeth are nourished properly. The part that covers the tooth as well as connects it to the jaws are known as the cementum. The periodontal ligament is situated between the cementum and jawbone while it connects it and cushions the tooth.
Apart from braces being effective in fixing crooked teeth, do you know how exactly it functions? Having straight teeth is important not only for its appearance but for proper chewing and talking as well. Teeth with unnatural spaces which are hard to clean are extremely prone to cavities. Misaligned teeth can also affect the way the jaw lines up and thus cause severe pain and discomfort.
One way of correcting this is to have orthodontic treatment, braces or retainers. Teeth out of their customary position especially ones that still grow are fixed in time by orthodontic treatments. Braces are primarily made up of first, the bonding that connects the bracket to the tooth and the arch wire which runs throughout all the brackets.
These days, many patients with orthodontic needs can get braces that are transparent and can attach to the back of the teeth. Braces that have come a long way since its train track era quickly fulfills its job.And once it is done, the patient may then wear retainers. To keep the teeth straight and in place, custom made retainers are used. Small concerns in orthodontics can be fixed by them. Teeth that are straight and healthy do not only define beauty but it also encourage proper bodily functions. Not only will you have a healthy body but you'll also have loads of reasons to smile about when you know how to care for your teeth properly.
