The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is taken by over 600

,000 individuals from all across the globe every year. A good GRE score is required by most graduate schools. Because of this, all potential graduate school students are left with no choice but to make sacrifices and study long and hard for the exam. Your GRE score may also be used as basis for future career promotion or financial aid packages. Because of this, it is necessary that you do your best when taking the GRE. Here are some tips:

1.Familiarize yourself with the test format. The GRE is composed of three areas - math, verbal, and writing. Remember that there are two parts for each section. The exam also comes with an un-scored, or experimental, section that will not count towards your official score. Note that you will not know for certain which section will not be scored.

2.Practice makes perfect. Yes, the clich holds true, especially on the GRE. GRE questions are not as complicated as what many of us would expect. However, they can be very difficult to answer if you are not familiar with the subject matter. You can find a wide range of GRE practice tests online. Some of these are for free while others are offered on a minimal amount. Make it a point to practice every day. Allot at least 15 minutes several times a day. The more you practice, the more familiar you will be about the test.

3.Always read the directions. Because the GRE is a timed test, most exam-takers get rattled when taking the test. In their attempt to finish the test in the soonest possible time, they sometimes end up not following directions. If you fail to follow the directions, all your answers for that part of the test will be marked wrong.

4.Get your pacing down. Because the GRE is timed, you will have to become comfortable with spending about two minutes per question. While you can take faster or slower than two minutes per question, in order to finish all the questions on within the time limit, you will need to learn how to answer questions correctly at this pace. Again, practice makes perfect.

5.Increase your vocabulary. We cannot tell which words will be on you exam, so to ensure that you get a good score on the Analogy and Antonym sections, carry around flashcards so that you can learn vocabulary words in your spare time.
