Cleaning your car
When cleaning your car the first and most important thing to do would be to clean your bucket and sponge. If you don't and there is small bits of sharp objects like stone in then this would scratch your vehicle while you're washing it. Always wash your car from top to bottom, so that from the roof working your way down to the wheels, by doing this it moves the flow of dirty water and contaminants away from the car instead of around the vehicle, reducing the chances of dirty smears.
Bird Excrement
If you notice that a bird has vey kindly left you some excrement on your car you should remove this straight away. This can be done with a warm damp cloth, if the bird excrement has gone hard then you should leave the warm damp cloth on the excrement until it has softened then wipe away. If you leave the mess on your car then it will eat into the lacquer top coat and leave a series of marks that can only be repaired by a re-spray.
Key Scratches
If you have a key scratch on your car and can't afford for a professional repair then don't leave the scratch untreated till you decside what to do, this will only weather and could peel or rust could set in. Go and buy a touch up kit for the Paint Scratch, this includes the primer, paint and top clear coat or lacquer. The best thing to do would be to clean the repair with some alcohol based cleaner, when dry apply some of the primer to the scratch, making sure the primer is in the scratch and not on the outside. Once dry apply the paint taking equal care, leave to dry then apply the top clear coat. Once this process is completed the Key Scratch Repair will be finished and protected from rust and weathering.
Light Scratch Repairs
These sorts of scratches can be found under door handles where the keys or nails have scratched the surface, or anywhere a light contact form objects such as branches or items of clothing have scratched the cars surface. If you run your fingernail over the scratch and can feel an edge then you will have to touch up the scratch as described in the previous paragraph, if you can't feel an edge to the Car Scratch then you should be able to remove or reduce by means of compounding. This process involves using cutting compounds and polishes to repair the car scratch. First clean the repair so there is no dirt or grime around the scratch, then apply some compound to a cloth and in a circular motion rub on and around the scratch, continue this until the scratch has either faded or has been removed (be careful not to rub too hard or excessively or you will rub through the lacquer).Next do the same with the polish to remove any fading or compounding marks on and around the scratch. Using this process will reduce most scratches or sometimes remove them completely and save you time and money in having the scratch repaired at an accident repair centre.
Saving Fuel
Having a clean windscreen saves fuel, it achieves this by improving the air flow around the vehicle while the cars in motion, Improving the cars aerodynamics reduceses the air resistance there for requiring less fuel to move. Another tip to save fuel is to make sure that the tyres are at the correct pressure. If they are not and are to flat for example this would increase the surface area of the tyre on the road which in turn creates more friction so require more fuel to move the vehicle. So having the correct air pressure will reduce the surface area of the tyre that impacts on the road reducing the amount of fuel to move.
