Top 8 Dining Tips On Stradbroke Island

North Stradbroke Island has a range of dining options

. Enjoy an evening at an atmospheric local restaurant, or cook up your own storm with Straddie's fresh local seafood:

Amis Restaurant Bar

Forming part of the Pandanus Palms Resort, this is arguably the best restaurant on the island. Save this one for that special night out. Duck features heavily, including a duck degustation, but plenty of gourmet options are available. Flavours and spices from the Mediterranean, Africa, India and South East Asia meld to complete their creations. International visitors may like to try the Kangaroo loin fillet and goat cheese.

Domain Cafe

Home of the Straddie Big Breakfast, Domain cafe is a great morning power boost to start the day's activities. Domain also offers quality culinary creations for lunch and dinner, with an informal cafe atmosphere, opposite Home Beach. In nice weather, enjoy an outdoor coffee.

Fishes Cafe

Not only does Fishes Cafe offer great fresh seafood, they also have free wireless internet, occasional music and an environmental conscience. Their used cooking oil is converted into bio-diesel by a local fisherman supplying them, to power his boat.

Waves Bistro

This forms part of the grand and shapely Stradbroke Island Beach Hotel. Come for the magnificent views over the beaches at Point Lookout, and out to sea. Stay for a hearty steak, King Prawn Risotto, Roasted Lamb or Seafood Laksa, with live music on Saturday nights. Gluten free and vegetarian options are available.

Local Seafood takeaway

There are several good fish and chipperies across the island. What would a Stradbroke Island holiday be, without fish and chips at the beach! The island's trawler men retail their catch at Prawn Shack, Point Lookout. This includes prawns, bugs, sand crabs, fish and oysters. At Rufus King Seafood at Amity Point, among most other places, the seafood is also fresh off the trawler.

Picnic

One downside to the peace and serenity of off peak times on Straddie is that some cafes may be closed midweek. Make the most of it and pack a picnic. That way you'll be free to explore any outlying attractions, and less crowds at the popular natural spots.

Barbeque

Several barbeques dotted around North Stradbroke Island allow you to cook and enjoy the great outdoors. So if you fancy your cooking skills, or want to impress your partner or friends, grab some of the local fishermen's fresh catch and fire up the barbie. Crack open a bottle of wine as the sun goes down. Does life get much better?

Campfire Bush Tucker

I'm afraid you'll need your own imagination on this one! With eight campgrounds around North Stradbroke Island, there are plenty of peaceful, relaxing spots to cook your own. So if you are keen to get back to nature and cook up some damper, and boil the billy for a bush "cuppa", maybe this one's for you.

Stradbroke Island has a range of dining options, from gourmet and sophisticated to relaxed and informal, including takeaway and self catering options.
