Top Argentinean Dances

Argentina is known all over the world as an energetic and fun loving country that

has wonderful culture, beautiful nature, wild parties and unconquered temper.

A great part of Argentinean culture is based in dancing. Dancing is more than a leisure time activity, for Argentineans it is a part of their lifestyle, their passion, their love. Argentinean are believed to be complicated people in terms of understanding but there is one way how you can see what do they really feel and it is through the dance.

Probably, the first dance that everybody thinks when hearing Argentinean dance is tango. And indeed, the most passionate dance was born and grew in the suburbs of Buenos-Aires, in the brightest district of the country which has interesting name La Boca. The most popular dance of the XX century was historically a dance of lower social classes and even prohibited by Papa of the Rome. Amazing dance means a play of a man and a woman. One famous Argentinean tango dancer explained that in tango a man should show all his feelings to a woman in just 3 minutes, he has to make her believe that she is the only love of his life and if he manages to do and she falls in love than it can be called tango.

One more dance that cannot be omitted while speaking about Argentinean dances is Chamame. It is a check-to-cheek dance that is performed with natural Argentinean energy. Chamame has very interesting mix that was created by immigrants who came to the country at the end of XVII century to inhabit beautiful lands of the most interesting country in Latin America. This way Chamame appeared as a hot dance that contains Polish polka, Russian mazurka and European waltz. This absolutely unbelievable mix turned into one of the most spectacular performance one can imagine.

A great example of Argentinean group dance is Cuartero. The group dance includes 10-20 people that stand in a circle and move clockwise. Accompanied by the music alegre they move faster and faster with music being louder and louder. It is usually accompanied by a wonderful mix of piano, guitar and special Spanish drum and bandeon. Dancers create a rhythm that has a funny and a very cute name tunga-tunga. Dancing Cuartero is a lot of fun. It is danced almost everywhere, even in the city shop. Tunga-tunga will take on an amazing journey of laugh, fun and crazy moves.
