At this moment in time, the .com domain name extensions are thought of to be the authority for domain names. Most people know about .net, and they will except that. All others are looked at with suspicion. Keep this in mind, since this isn't what you want for yourself, or for your online entity.

When you are buying domain names for your online entities, ask your hosting company if they will give you free domain. Actually, many hosting companies will give you a few free domains as part of a sign up package. However, if you don't see any information about this on their website, feel free to ask for them. The hosting companies want to stay competitive, and they will more than likely offer you free domains when you purchase domain names.
