Top Tips To Choose Tires

Cars are vehicles that travel on road and it is the tire that makes it possible

. Slightly changing the old adage, it can be said "Show your tires and one can tell you what kind of a driver you are. If you want to get the best out of your vehicle, do not ignore the following tips about tires.

First Questions

The first question to ask yourself is what do you know about tires? If you are not very knowledgeable, do consult a dealer in tires for advice. Tires vary in sizes and types. There are tires that suit the season you drive in and there are tires classified according to the type of performance you are looking for. Tires also vary according to the vehicle you are driving. Contact the vehicle manufacturer or dealer and consider their recommendations.

Tire pressure

Tires are like balloons, if they are properly inflated they will bob around for longer; if they are over inflated, they are easier to burst and if they are under inflated, they are useless. The manufacturer mentions the maximum pressure to which the tire maybe subjected to, on each tire. This is simply a warning if you got your eyes else where while inflating. The real number is the recommended pressure for regular driving. However, you can squeeze a little more in or release a little out of this value to match the performance to your requirement.

Tire types

The three general classifications of tires are according to the season they are designed to run in. Summer tires are designed to be soft. Thus, these tires wear out quickly but offer better grip and are rated for high speeds.

Winter tires are however for the really cold winter season, when the roads are frosty and there maybe snow. These tires have larger grooves to allow water and snow to be flushed out as the tire rolls over the surface. Some of these tires also come with studs that allow you to get a better grip on the roads by "roughening" them up.

All season tires are those designed to perform well in rain or shine. They come with a surface that is a combination of the above two types. However attractive this may seem, it is simply impossible to get the same performance that a summer or winter specific tire might be able to provide. It is highly recommended that you switch between tires between seasons although if the region doesn't see extreme weathers, all season tires are pretty good.

Tire replacement

Your tires need replacement if they seem to go "bald". This happens when the tire loses its rubber and the tread depth becomes too shallow. Most tires these days come with a marking scheme that indicates when to replace the tire. A trained professional can repair most shallow cuts that you may find on the tire. It is best to seek the advice of a dealer every 50000 miles on changing the tire. Choose tires that have a long tread life.

Tires should be chosen depending on your needs and not based on overall ratings. There are plenty of enthusiasts out there who would be able to help you choose the right tire for you.
