Taking part in auction can be exciting, sometimes nerve racking but whether you love or hate the auction atmosphere the important thing is that you get the lot you want for the price you want. Here are a few tips to help you prepare for an auction so that you can come away with the item you wanted without any buyers remorse.
Seek advice If you are not already an expert on the type product you are purchasing then contact someone who is and get their opinion. They can let you know if the product is in good condition, how much it is worth and much more valuable information that can help you make an informed decision about the product before you put in a bid.
Bring a friend Sometimes you can get caught up in the emotion of the auction and get tempted to make a bid that is higher than you can afford. Bring someone who is calm, level headed and most importantly, not connected to the item. They can stop you from going overboard if the auction begins to sink into a bidding war.
Research Going online is a great way to get more information about the product you are buying. You can also search online for alternatives so that you have a back up, just in case the auction doesn't go the way you originally planned. Sometimes it is even worth researching the seller or the auction house if you are making a rather large purchase.
Budget My final point is probably my most important. Set a budget based on how much money you have to spend and what you think is a fair price (you should have a good idea of what this should be if you've done your research properly). Once you've set your budget remember to stick to it! Like I said earlier don't get caught up in the moment.
Auctions are emotional places but remember it is the rational that prosper. At the last auction I went to I was bidding on a used commercial van. I researched the van, set my budget and once the auction began I stayed calm and thought before I bid. I am now the proud owner of a Ford Transit. All the best for your next auction.
