Lonely Planet, based upon the strength of the travellers national currency vis a

vis that of the destination currency, cost of living, economic slump, political and natural turmoil in many countries and other such factors, have picked up top 10 value-destinations for the year 2010. The destinations that appeared in the list included Iceland, Thailand, South Africa, India, apart from Bulgaria, Mexico, Kenya, Malaysia, London and Las Vegas.

Iceland had its currency depreciating dramatically against the Pound and the US dollar making it an affordable short haul destination especially for Britons. Icelands national carrier Icelandair has also reported to have slashed their prices to attract more travellers.

Thailand was recently struck by months long political strife with most nations warning their citizens against travel to this country. Now when things are coming back to normal, the advice has been eased and in order to attract the holidaymakers, the hotels and resorts as well as many airlines are offering great discounts to numerous destinations in Thailand.

South Africa due to its low cost of living is an affordable destination for travellers. The Pound also strengthened against the SA Rand during the last year. There are many cheap flights to South Africa from Britain. However, FIFA is likely to set the prices of the hotels and accommodation in South Africa on an upward spiral.
