He managed to maintain the No. 1 rank by winning most number of major championships. The year, 1962 brought a major victory for Jack Nicklaus with a win over Arnold Palmer in the U.S. Open. In the year 1966, he became the first golfer to win 'Masters Tournament' for two successive years. In the period between 1971 and 1980, Jack Nicklaus won 9 major championships and overtook the record of winning 13 majors, that was set by Bobby Jones.

Arnold Palmer was born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania (10th September, 1929); he took golf lessons from his father Decon Palmer. She has won the 'Player of the Year' trophy for a record eight times. Annika Sorenstam has represented Europe (8 times) between 1994 and 2007 for the Solheim Cup. In the year 2003, she became the first woman to participate in a men's PGA tour at 'Bank of America Colonial Tournament'.
Kathy Whitworth
Born in Monahans, Texas on 27th September, 1939, Kathy Whitworth started playing golf at the age of 15. She first tasted success by winning the 'New Mexico State Amateur Championship' in 1957 (and also in 1958). Kathy Whitworth's success in LPGA tour championships came in the form victory at the 'Kelly Girls Open' in 1962. She was honored as 'LPGA Player of the Year' from 1966-1973.
Mickey Wright
Born on 14th February, 1935 in San Diego, California, Mickey Wright is a former professional golf player. Winning the U.S. Girl's Junior title in 1952 was her first important achievement. Mickey Wright's LPGA tour began in 1955 and thereafter, she won as many as 82 titles. She is only behind Kathy Whitworth who won 88 tiles. Out of the 82 titles won by Mickey Wright, thirteen were major championships.
