Toyota Prius v A More Versatile Hybrid

Toyota Prius v A More Versatile Hybrid

Toyota is the undisputed king of hybrids and its flagship model the Toyota Prius has sold more than one million examples in the U.S alone. It was introduced in 2000 and it has become Toyotas third-best selling passenger car. However, many consumers say that the Prius is just not big enough and they want fuel economy accompanied with more space. Toyota has listened to its customers and in response has launched the 2012 Prius v, v standing for versatility. The new Prius has nearly 60 percent more cargo space than its predecessors but it does come at an expense of 8 mpg. Although the v is bigger, wider and taller: but it delivers 42mpg on average. There are three trims offered: the Prius v Two, Prius v Three and Prius v Five.

The hybrid system and power train for the Prius v are nearly the same as the one used in the last model. Toyotas Hybrid Synergy Drive System allows the Prius v to go around in town on electric power alone. The sensors decide when to start using petrol engine power or to keep on going on the electric motor. The engine used in the Prius is a 1.8 litre four cylinder engine producing 98bhp at 5,200 rpm but with its electric motor the hybrid system generates 134bhp. CVT has been used which acts like an automatic transmission.

Toyotas Prius has four driving modes; Normal, Power, Eco and EV. The normal mode, is the default mode when the car is started and is somewhere between ECO and Power when it comes to mileage and acceleration. In Power mode, the acceleration is rapid but the engine becomes thirstier for fuel, on the other hand ECO mode returns a good economy while compromising on the speed. In EV mode the car can be driven for up to a mile on electric power only. Prius v comes equipped with a smart key system with push-button start, hill assist control, a back-up camera; sever air bags and an electronic shift lever. All these equipments are standard whereas available options include energy-efficient LED headlamps, a parking guidance system and a pre-collision system.

Toyota has tried to compete Fords SYNC system by fitting the Prius v with Entune infotainment system. If you connect a smart phone to the car via Bluetooth or a USB cable the Entunes features can then be operated using the vehicles controls or by voice recognition. Entune data services also include a fuel price guide, sports scores, stocks, traffic and weather. Toyota says that it will achieve 0-60mph in 10.4 seconds which is due to gaining more weight. Prius v is the leading car in its class as it has no competitor. The 2012 Prius v is the best car when it comes to hybrid as no other car offers the comfort and style of a family carrier while delivering excellent fuel economy.
