In yet another recall, the troubled Toyota Motor Corp. is calling back approximately 870,000 Sienna minivans in United States and Canada due to corrosion problem.

In an announcement Friday, the Japanese automaker said that it is recalling Sienna minivans manufactured between the years 1998 and 2010.
The recall includes 600,000 vehicles sold in the nation, and around 270,000 Sienna minivans sold in Canada.
Recall to address carrier cable problem
The recall, which is voluntary, is aimed at addressing the problem of rust in the cable that holds the spare tire.
Due to corrosion, there are chances that the carrier cable may fail and the spare tire can dislodge from the vehicle, the company stated. So far no incident of crash or injury linked to the problem has been reported.
The recall by Toyota comes just a day after it announced that it will be temporarily halting the sales of its Lexus GX460 model in North America after a consumer magazine titled Consumer Reports judged the vehicle Don't Buy: Safety Risk.'
In a statement Toyota's chief quality officer for North America, said, "Toyota is listening to its customers attentively, and we want to make sure their voices are heard. We are also working diligently to develop a remedy as soon as possible."
Once the automaker comes up with a remedy for the problem, the customers will be informed.
The company's web page reads, "We deeply regret the inconvenience and concern caused to our customers and others by our recent recalls of multiple vehicle models across multiple regions."
Toyota mired in problems
There seems to be no end to the problems for the company.
This recall is the latest in the series of recalls by the struggling automaker.

In January, Toyota recalled around 2.3 million vehicles due to the faulty accelerators, and also due to the problem of floor mats, leading to sudden acceleration of the vehicles.
Since late 2009, the automaker has recalled more than 8 million vehicles.
