Trading Computers Guide: Understanding What Traders Need in Terms of a Trading Computer
Hello My Name is Eddie Z, I've been a full time stock trader and financial market player for over 2 decades. In addition, I have been taking computers apart and putting them back together since the early days of Commodore and the TRS-80. During the past 20 plus years, I have come to truly understand computer technology from a traders point of view. As a full time day trader myself, and with my technology background, I can offer a unique perspective into what traders really need in terms of trading computer technology.
I get asked all the time: What do technology do I need to consider, as a trader, when thinking about trading computer? There are several key things to think about. What most traders need are: 1. A lightning fast processor : To handle multiple charts, news feeds, process data, run quantitative automated trading strategies and communicate with the internet. 2. Top quality components in terms of reliability, dependability and useful life. This means that traders need to know what brands of components are inside of their trading computers. 3. Multiple Monitor Support: Most traders need multiple monitors so that they can follow many indicators, news feeds and other information simultaneously. Desktop Real Estate is what traders call it. Lastly, traders need the highest possible level of tech support available because most traders are not computer nerds. US based traders need support that is US based and speaks American English (not India based with voice delay as most of us are accustomed too). These are definitely the most important items to consider.
Usually the next question I hear is: What are the main components of a computer that I need to study and understand? Well the top 5 are: The CPU or Processor, the motherboard, Random Access Memory also know as RAM, Storage Devices also known as Hard Drives and lastly, Multiple Monitor Graphics cards.
In future articles I will take the time to break down and explain each item individually and explore which components are best, which ones work well together and which ones traders should stay away from. If you are considering purchasing a trading computer its very important to understand what goes into the machine that you do not buy low quality and also that you don't get ripped off. There are companies out there that take advantage of traders and their lack of computer technology knowledge. So it is buyer beware.
