Trailer BBQ Grills - Why Using a Hitch Grill Helps With Your Tailgating Plans

If you attend sporting events and like to tailgate before you go to the big game, you know that it can be a lot of fun. There's an opportunity to have good food and spend time with family and friends before the actual event starts. However, you know that tailgating can be somewhat of a "pain," too, because if you decide you want to grill out when you tailgate, you've got to lug the grill along with you, set it up, and break it down to reload it once the tailgating party is over.

Now, however, if you like to tailgate but don't want all of the hassle that normally goes along with trying to set up your "at-home grill" in the parking lot, consider investing in a hitch grill. Hitch grills are specifically designed for those who tailgate, and they make tailgating a lot easier and a lot more fun. Some of these portable grills, for example, mount right on the trailer hitch of your truck or SUV, or you can simply set them on the tailgate or on the ground. You can choose gas or charcoal, and you can even get them with your favorite team's logo on them.

Types of hitch grills

Perhaps the most popular type of portable grill is the one that mounts right on the trailer hitch. This is a gas or charcoal grill that you can mount right to the back of your vehicle, using your trailer hitch. The grill itself "swings out" away from the vehicle (truck or SUV), so that you can grill safely while still having a firm anchor without having to go through a lot of hassle trying to set it up. Again, you can also set the grill on the tailgate or on the ground as well, if you don't have a trailer hitch on your car.

Charcoal, or gas?

That depends; for some people, it's not grilling unless you use charcoal for that unique flavor. You're in luck with hitch grills, because unlike your at-home grill, portable grills can grill for several hours on as little as three briquettes. There's no flareup, and the design is such that mess is kept at a minimum, too. If you are not a grilling "purist," however, going with a propane model is probably going to make things a little easier for you.

Expense

You might be thinking you've got to spend a lot of money for one of these portable grills, and it all depends. You can of course spend a lot of money on a fancy hitch grill that you actually pull behind your vehicle, with multiple burners, large propane tanks, and even cold storage for food; for that, you'll spend several thousand dollars. If you're a "hard-core" tailgater and you've got the money to do so, you can certainly invest in one of these and make your event even more fun.

If you are operating on a more modest scale, though, you can get these grills for a much more modest price without having to break your bank. Expect to pay from under $100 to about $300 for a good, basic grill that will do up your burgers and hot dogs just fine.
