1.) You got to be able to open up the lines of communication between you and your horse. And the way you do that either give his/her a treat or praise it open up the line communication between you and your horse. This way, your horse becomes more responsive to your other commands as well, and pays better attention to you.

2.) By doing so you're teaching your horse to learn. It becomes easier for your horse to learn new tricks. The more you learn the more you can teach your horse and the easier it becomes to learn more difficult things.

You may be asking "Where and How do you start"?

There are a few simple things that you will have to remember when teaching your horse anything.

1.) Horses have short attention spans, so keep is short. Ten to fifteen minutes is plenty of time to work on something new.

2.) Very short lessons each and every day are all that's needed. Don't miss a day if you can help it. By giving short lessons each day it give your horse time to think in between.

3.) Give his a reward for doing good, worth it. But before giving out reward, make sure your horse is hungry. If you're using praise, after your horse have alone for the last few hours will be more responsive to you.

4.) Some horses learn quickly, others slowly.So be patient.

5.) Tiny increments. You don't teach your horse to bring his bucket in one day!

It's all done in tiny little increments with much praise and reward each step of the way.

Right before feeding time is an excellent time to spend the few minutes needed to work on a new trick.

WHAT KIND OF COMMANDS SHOULD I USE?

That's totally up to you. You can speak in any language you like or make up your own. Your horse doesn't know the difference. Using a hand signal along with a voice command gets a much better response than a voice command alone.

Most horses aren't used to listening to the words that come out of our mouths. This has to be learned and it takes time. Hand signals should be very specific and can always be dropped later if your horse seems to catch on to the spoken word.
