In the following lines, let us discuss what transactions are possible at an ATM.
Cash withdrawal One can withdraw cash from the kiosk using the card. This is possible from the current as well as savings account. There is a maximum limit above which one cannot withdraw cash in a single day and this has to be adhered to at all times.
Cash deposit Cash can also be deposited in a relevant bank account.
Cheque deposit In the kiosk, there is a box into which one can deposit cheques so that the same can be credited to a particular bank account.
Bill payment - Most of the ATMs are designed so as to facilitate payment of bills such as telephone, electricity, credit card, etc.
Mini statement One can get a print of the mini statement of his or her bank account. This will help in keeping a check on the transactions that are taking place in the account so as to prevent any fraudulent usage.
Transfer of money It is possible to transfer money from one account to another in an ATM. If a person has details of both the account numbers, it can be done in a very simple process. Though some of the ATMs allow transfers between accounts of different banks, it is usually possible with accounts in the same bank.
Mobile recharge This is a recent service which has been added to an ATM. One can recharge his or her mobile with a pre paid subscription. This saves a lot of time and is convenient.
Account balance One can check the balance in his or her account using the debit card.
Apart from the above, the computer in the kiosk also has a number of advertisements of the services which are being delivered by the bank. This is a nice way of knowing if there are any products that might be of ones interest without having to visit the bank. A very few ATMs in India also facilitate the purchase of train and air tickets.
