Transcendental Meditation (or TM) as a technique of meditation is a simple mental procedure that does not require all those mentioned above. It is done twenty minutes twice every day. Transcendental Meditation can be done in various places airports, train stations, lobbies, and hotel rooms. It can be enjoyed even in a non-quiet place. This technique is easy for any setting, whether quiet or secluded and public.
Posture is very important in meditation. In transcendental meditation, one can either sit on a chair, on the bed, or on the floor. Any sitting position will do as long as one is comfortable. Eyes should be shut. Note that transcendental meditation is never practiced while lying down.
Transcendental meditation does not focus on breathing or its rhythm unlike many other meditation techniques. Rather, TM uses the minds natural tendency to incline to greater peace just like how gravity causes a stone to sink in a water pond. The mind is taken to what's within the person, independent of the breathing.
Transcendental meditation does not involve any concentration or focus. It is an effortless technique in which the mind is allowed to flow naturally towards creative silence at the source of the mind. This happens spontaneously and naturally without effort during the practice of transcendental meditation. Other technique usually has a focus or concentration on an object, like a candle, to eliminate thoughts and not let the mind wander, and when distracted, the mind just needs to return to that focus. This is not needed for TM making it a very unique and different meditation technique.
