There are several reasons you might like to transfer your domain name (DN)
. The process of transferring a domain is a bit cumbersome, as it involves many factors. A domain name is registered under your name for a year, and you are required to renew it when it reaches the expiration date.
The DN renewal charges differ with every registrar. You can save a good amount of money by transferring your name to a different registrar that provides renewal at a lower cost. Registrars also sometimes provide hosting services, which is quite advantageous.
There are a few important things that you should know before you make the decision to transfer your DN. There are different types transfers, such as:
1. Transfer to a different registrar
2. Transfer to another person with the same registrar
3. Transfer to another person with a different registrar
4. Transfer of the DN you purchased from another person with the same registrar.
5. Transfer of the DN you purchased from another person with a different registrar.
The easiest transfer is from different registrars, as most registrars offer no additional cost on transfer of domain other than cost-related to registering a DN with them.
Steps to Transfer a Domain Name (DN):
1. You are required to access a domain name transfer area in your registrar's admin panel and enter the domain name you want to transfer to begin the process. The transfer may require 3- 8 days. When you initiate a domain transfer, you will receive an email and you will need to click the link received in the email to authorize the transfer.
2. You need to obtain an EPP key that needs to be sent to the domain registrar (receiving registrar) you have selected for transfer. The losing registrar generally provides a web interface to get the EPP key. The domain must be unlocked before it can be transferred to a different registrar (receiving registrar).
3. Once you have the DN unlocked and also have the EPP key, you can go ahead with the process to transfer.
4. Go to the DN registrar (receiving registrar) and enter the EPP key and details required.
5. The DN registrar (receiving registrar) will send you an email at the administrative contact email address of your domain to authorize the DN transfer. You are required to click on the link to authorize the transfer. You have a time period of 5 days to respond to the email. You can either accept or deny the transfer.
