Transform Your Smile With Dental Veneers This Summer

If you want to take your smile from ordinary to amazing

, look no further. With dental veneers, you can transform the appearance of your smile, making it red carpet worthy. Veneers are thin custom-made moldings that cover the fronts of unsightly teeth. Hand-crafted from tooth-colored, high-tech materials, dental veneers portray a natural, bright smile. So if you have unattractive gaps, stained, misshaped, or crooked teeth, dental veneers may be able to mask your dental blemishes.

Step 1: Diagnosis and Treatment Planning

At your first visit to your dentist in Saginaw Township, your dentist will require your active participation. Be sure to explain to your dentist the result you are striving for. Once your dentist understands what you are trying to achieve, the treatment planning can begin. During this initial visit, your dentist will examine your teeth to make sure dental veneers are appropriate for you. They will also discuss what is involved in the veneer procedure and any limitations involved. Your dentist may also take x-rays, and may make impressions of your mouth and teeth for the creation of your veneers.

Step 2: Preparation

To prepare your tooth, or teeth, for a veneer, your dentist will remove approximately millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface, which is an amount nearly equal to the thickness of the veneer to be added to the tooth surface. Before the enamel is trimmed, you and your dentist will discuss the need for a local anesthetic to numb the area. Next, your Saginaw dentist will make a model or impression of your tooth to send out to the dental laboratory, which will create your veneer. Because it typically takes anywhere from one to two weeks for your dentist to receive the veneer back from the laboratory, you may need a temporary veneer placed. However, this is not always needed.

Step 3: Bonding

Once your dentist has received the veneer, it will be permanently cemented to your tooth. Your dentist will temporarily place the veneer on your tooth to examine its fit and color. He will then repeatedly remove and trim the veneer as needed in order to achieve the proper fit for your tooth restoration. The color of your veneer can be adjusted accordingly to the shade of cement being used.

To prepare your tooth for the veneer, your tooth will be cleaned, polished, and etched-which roughens the tooth to allow for a strong bonding process. Special cement will be used to adhere the veneer to your tooth. Once the veneer is properly positioned on the tooth, your dentist will apply a special light beam to the veneer. This special light activates chemicals in the cement, causing it to harden very quickly. The final steps in your veneer process involve removing any excess cement, evaluating your bite and making any final adjustments in the veneer as needed. Your dentist may ask you to return for a follow-up visit in a couple of weeks to check how your gums are responding to the presence of your veneer and to once again examine the veneer's placement.
