Translation Major Are Warmly Welcomed In Confucius Institute

Fifty six freshmen from the University of Ricardo Palma joyfully and curiously entered

the Chinese Classroom of the Translation Department and started their 5-year-long Chinese-Spanish translation odyssey.

The Confucius Institute at University of Ricardo Palma is the fourth Confucius Institute in Peru. However, featuring outstanding educational characteristics, it is the first institution of higher education in South America that trains professional Chinese-Spanish translators. Since the first Chinese majors were enrolled in March 2011, the department has launched nearly 30 various Chinese courses, and over 400 students have learned Chinese language and culture in Chinese classes at a variety of levels. As exchanges between Peru and China grow increasingly stronger, Peruvian people are growing more and more interested in Chinese culture, and there is an ever increasing demand for Chinese-Spanish translators.
