Transport Wheelchair | Why Some Mobile Chairs are Called Advanced Patient Transportation
There are several styles of mobile chairs on the market today
. When a mobile chair is considered advanced patient transportation, it's because it is able to accommodate needs that an average chair cannot. Every transport chair doesn't have to be foldable. When a wheelchair is purchased for an active individual, having the folding function can be very important. The average household user needs their mobile chair to be easily transportable, being able to fit in the trunk of a car, or side compartment in a van is essential. The possibility of theft is probably a small threat if someone has invested in a folding frame wheelchair. Public facilities that need transport chairs to be available around the clock, invest in non-folding chairs to lengthen durability, and help detour theft. If having a chair for the specific use of one facility is the focus, then features like a chair being stack-able and having an organizing stand is more of a priority. Medical emergency preparation is part of an advanced patient mobile chair design. These mobile chairs have to be able to handle the simplest function of transporting a disabled patient from one room to the next, as well as supporting an oxygen tank or even an IV pole. At a hospital every second counts, a minute lost could be the difference between life and death. Hassling with patient transportation that requires parts to be removed before the individual enters the chair just isn't an option. Advanced patient mobile chairs are created with both the rider and user in mind, getting in and out of these chairs is a matter of simply entering in through one of the no lift sides. Advanced mobile chairs are able to operate under considerable strain. A person who is physically impaired has nearly 3 times as much of a chance at obesity than a person who is not. In order to properly serve the community that your hospital is in, it has to be prepared to transport patients that may be several hundred pounds. Mobility chair manufacturers are aware of this concern and have designed their advanced chairs to be able to support up to 500 pounds. A wheelchair being used predominately for home healthcare may not have to support a large weight capacity. Individual use wheelchairs usually have the priority of being self-operating, which is why power wheelchairs have become so popular. A power wheelchair gives the rider the advantage of controlling when and where they go almost as if they were walking. Everyday technology is becoming more advanced. Today's standards for an advanced patient chair already includes steel grade frames that can support up to 500 pounds while allowing the rider to enter in the sides without removing arm and leg rests. Being prepared for emergency situations by easily accommodating oxygen tanks and IV poles is also a required task for today's advanced chairs. Only time will tell on what tomorrow's mobile chairs will be able to do.
