Trestle Table Ensures Elegance And Practicality
The Trestle Table had to begin somewhere and a search of the history shows that it was in use in ancient times
. Early American settlers and families moving to the Western Frontier adapted it to fit into their particular situation. In covered wagons they were very convenient as they enabled pioneers to use them along the way. Today's manufacturers produce beautiful renditions of this furniture which are now available on the Internet.
Kings and other royalty of the Middle Ages were especially proud of the fact these tables were specially made. Often embellished with royal designs and personalized, they signified that only the best was suited for their position in life. The common man also had these tables, but they were very simply made with crude boards fastened together.
This is one of the most popular types of table on the market today. Striking in appearance with its lovely shining surface, it is a wonderful addition to any locale. When entertaining guests for dinner it adds to the pristine atmosphere when adorned with silver and fine tableware. Many times first impressions are crucial and this is true when one has very important guests.
With decorating as it is today many designers have adapted this furniture to go with specific themes. Available in many woods, including red or white oak, cherry, maple, walnut, and hickory as well as varying styles it fits in very well in any setting. The leaves on the dining table allow it to extend to 90 inches making it possible to accommodate a large number of guests.
Many different shapes of this table are available. They include oval, round, rectangle, and square. This enables a person decorating to make a selection that will fit in any room or area. Often used in conference areas this has the appeal of being able to seat a large number of people without worrying about numerous legs.
Although many different woods are used in the construction of these tables, special colors are also popular in today's tables. Black goes especially well in anyone design utilizing an Urban Chic theme. Antique white works very well in presenting a farmstead or European style. For the office, usually ebony or very dark wood is preferred and many different styles are available.
These tables vary greatly according to prospective use. A bar height table would be very convenient as an extension of the bar or could be used in the kitchen next to a counter as a breakfast bar. They are also available for such things as picnic areas or workrooms. Through the years they have withstood the test of times and many homes proudly display ones that have been in the family for many, many years.
Very few of the old world tables are in existence today, but one can be found at the Ridjksmuseum Amsterdam-Museum. There one can view a Trestle Table that was made in the 1600's in Spain. Covered with exquisitely engraved silver tops, resting on bases covered with ebony veneer, it is an outstanding example of the work of that period.
