Tropical Storm Karl Hits Mexico On Wednesday

Strong tropical storm at landfall Charles Yucatan peninsula in Mexico on Wednesday

, hitting sparsely populated stretch of Caribbean coastline, while the two Category 4 hurricanes roared still in the Atlantic Ocean.

Karl landfall about 50 km east-northeast of Kuitana Roo state capital Chetumal with winds of around 100 km/h, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami.

The storm hit south of Tulum, a beach town of eco-resorts and Mayan ruins, cliff, but near the small fishing and tourist town of Xcalak. It is expected to rapidly weaken to a tropical depression as it moved across the flat peninsula before returning along the Gulf of Mexico, where it could become a hurricane by the end of the week and threaten the central coast of Mexico.
