Trussville Alabama A City Rich in History

Termed by Money Magazine as one of the best places to live in the United States in 2005, Trussville is a city that enjoys a rich history and natural beauty. Residents love the city for the tree-lined streets, the ample employment opportunities, the great schools and the fact that there is just so much to do.

Settlers flowed into Alabama in 1814, after the surrender of Creek land. They used the forests and fields Alabama offered to build homes and practice farming. The city was named after Warren Truss, a settler who had occupied 1000 acres of land and built a mill on the Cahaba River. Until the mid nineties the city was simply called "Truss."

For many decades, Trussville largely remained a rural, isolated community that focused only on farming. Formal education came during the 1860s, when RG Hewitt build a log school that provided education to 100 students. Most city schools still carry Hewitt's name.

Trussville is home to the famous historic Cahaba Village, which has been listed as one of the most historic and well-kept communities. The village was actually built on an area deemed unsuitable for farming but perfect for housing. It was part of an economic recovery program offered by the government. The area is still very popular and desired among residents.

The city was a well-kept secret until the 1980s, when the local council started working on its annexation policy, resulting in a town area that was almost triple the original and with double the population. Trussville attracts a sizable number of young, middle-income families who come to the city for its affordable housing and business opportunities. Trussville also has a 128 acre sports complex, with a range of facilities for coaching and year-round activities for students.

A great draw to Trussville is its close proximity to Birmingham, the largest city in Alabama. Other factors that attract people to Trussville are its excellent schools and low crime rate. Contributing components to Trussville's very low crime rate are the active police department, smaller population and the community feeling that is imbibed in the town.

The city residents lovingly call it "Mayberry," to symbolize a community where everyone knows everyone and people work together to fulfill the goals they have for their hometown. Whether you're a single parent or a family trying to give your child the best education and a safe environment to grow in, Trussville is a great option for you.

The city's motto is "Gateway to happy living", a motto that all the residents unanimously agree to!
