Truths That You Need To Be Aware Of About Outsourcing

Are you considering outsourcing some of your workload

? This can be a cost-effective way to take on more business, but you need to really do your homework before hiring an outside consultant or company, as their work will impact the overall quality of your project.

Many companies have experienced the problems of turnover, knowledge, and even attitude when outsourcing.

Turnover should be one consideration. This can be a problem with temporary staff.

Outsourcing companies usually have a fairly high turnover rate.

You'll likely either train the outsourced staff, or have one of your employees train the outsourced staff. If the staff does not stay, will you have to do this again with their replacement? How will this impact operations?

You may have additional company knowledge that will have to be taught as well. Think about company policies and procedures. How long do you typically spend training people on these topics?

It will probably take about two weeks for a new worker to get up to speed. If they leave, it will take another two weeks to get their replacement up to speed, and so on and so forth. Will this impact customer satisfaction?

When you outsource work, even if the employee works within your facility, they are not your employee. You don't decide what their benefit package is, and many temporary employees are actually seeking full-time work with benefits.

Will the outsourced employee believe in your vision? Will they be proactive in instilling your company's values and mission? Maybe, but maybe not, as they aren't truly an employee of your company.

Some employers have learned the hard way that outsourced employees do not always care about the company as much as you would like.

Before entering into an outsource agreement, ensure that you have made it very clear, in writing, that all outsourced employees must uphold the same company values as any other employee.
