. This method of augmentation uses several different styles when making incisions. There are three basic kinds of abdominoplasty methods which are commonly used or preferred by most doctors.

Partial Tummy Tuck

The so called mini tuck consists of a very small cut made in the abdomen depending on how much skin and fat need to be removed and repositioned. Unlike the traditional method, the procedure is often scar less or has minimum risk of scarring due to the fact that the cut is very small.

The navel does not usually need to be repositioned during the surgery. Only a minimal amount of the abdominal wall is exposed for the partial abdominoplasty, most times from the point of the cut to the individual's belly button.

Fat is removed and the musculature is redefined after which the doctor will cover the area with the skin and trim away tissue before sewing the skin in place. Most of the time, a drain is left temporarily to facilitate better recovery of the wound.

Circumferential Tummy Tuck

This method is a much more excessive form of surgery than all others in this field. Surgeons who use this usually makes incisions not only in the abdomen but also in other areas of the trunk where there is loose, hanging skin, sometimes around the waist, the lower back and the buttocks are often included.

In cases such as this, a belly button may need to be reconstructed since the trimming of excess skin may eliminate the old one. Patients who have had excessive weight loss are usually the best candidates for this method.

Downtime for the circumferential abdominoplasty is longer compared to others due to the number of cuts and extensive surgery done to the body. As with the other kinds of surgery of this nature, drainage is to be provided to promote lesser risk of infection.

Traditional

This kind of abdominoplasty entails a cut that is usually from the left hip to the right hip, just under the navel. Most of the time, the navel is removed and then replaced when the excess fat and tissue has been removed and it is time for the wound to be covered.

The belly button hole is often reconstructed. Muscles and underlying tissues are often stitched together to provide better muscle definition and tone underneath the dermis. These days, this procedure is not as serious as it used to be a few decades ago. Advancement in surgery and technique has lessened the risks involved.
