Tummy Tuck: Which Option Is Right For You?

Are you looking at tummy tuck as an option? Abdominoplasty is a very common surgery

, and there are a couple of different ways it can be performed. The two discussed here are the partial or mini version and the complete version. Both give results, but your circumstances have a lot to do with which procedure is best for you.

When going in for your tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, you're sure to have a lot of questions about the results. Well, there are two different types of procedures that are common, and they produce different results in different ways.

A partial tummy tuck is a procedure that is also called the mini tummy tuck. This is because the incision site is much smaller than in the complete version. In this procedure, your doctor will make an incision below the navel in one straight, horizontal line. He or she will then, through that site, be able to remove excess fat with liposuction and tighten muscles. This is recommended for people that are within ten percent of their ideal body weight. This is because people who are close to their ideal weight have less fat to remove and often require less drastic changes.

With a partial, you will likely have drainage tubes placed post-operation to avoid fluid buildup and will have to wear a compression garment in order for the results to be maintained through the first couple of weeks. One of the main incentives of getting a partial is that your belly button will not have to be repositioned and it is typically an outpatient procedure.

A complete tummy tuck is the more traditional method. When you go in for this, expect a longer scar. The incision is usually along the lines of the legs and the pubic bone, in a semi-U shape. Typically, the belly button is also completely removed while the surgeon is repositioning the skin and then grafted on after the surgery. This will have a recovery period of about six to seven weeks and you will often experience more swelling and tenderness, as more of an area is covered.

The benefit of the complete is that all of the muscles will be tightened, rather than just the lower muscles. Also, more skin will be able to be removed as that is a part of traditional surgery. This is recommended for people who have lost a drastic amount of weight, have extra skin from a pregnancy or other condition, or for people who are also getting liposuction and are more than twenty percent away from their ideal weight.

Whichever method you and your doctor decide is right for you, you will be able to see and feel the effects after a few weeks. Be sure to follow the post-operation care guidelines so that your healing goes as smoothly as possible. Once everything is healed, you will be amazed with your new stomach and can go on living in confidence.
