I have read in many articles that one should never turn a hobby into a career. The advice is based on the fact that doing so would cause you to lose your hobby. I dont subscribe to that theory. I am a keen D.I.Y enthusiast. Very often a project that I would really like to undertake would be unsuitable or too expensive for my home. Instead, I do the project for someone else who pays for all the materials and I get paid for my work which equates to someone paying me to have fun! A really good handyman is difficult to find and consequently there is a great deal of work available to one. The way I see it, a business need not take up all of someones time. I run my handyman business with as little as two hours a week! I have my I.T job to provide me with my regular income and my handyman business provides me with a very good second income and most importantly, a great deal of fun and job satisfaction. I get to meet people from all walks of life and also get to show off my handyman skills and tool collection which is vast, almost all of which was paid for out of my earnings as a handyman. Because I do not depend on my handyman business for my day to day living costs, I am able to pick and choose the projects that are offered to me and because of that, I am never in a position that I have to do a job that does not interest me. So I would say, If you have a hobby that needs a skill that someone else is gladly willing to pay for on a short time basis, then go for it.About the Author:
