Turnout Rugs Available For All Horses
When you are deciding to put the horse you have into a paddock
, and you want to keep it clean and dry, then the use of turnout rugs will probably take care of this. It also has the added benefit of keeping the animal warm when the weather changes.
There is a rug designed for the summer weather, and this is the lightweight one. It can have filling which is quite minimal or have no filling at all. The filling which is added to the coat is for extra protection and can be handy if the weather happens to change to stormy, or wet and windy. This type of rug is designed to be used in the summer months and can help keep the horse clean.
Another rug which can be more suitable for spring and autumn is the one that is of medium weight, and it may have around three hundred grams or less of filling. This coat may be suitable for those days when the weather has not quite warmed up enough for the lighter coat, it also offers more protection.
A rug which is designed for the winter months is the heavy weight one, it has filling of over three hundred grams, and it is the one which is most used in places where the weather can be very cold. It can also be used with an under blanket which adds protection.
These under blankets are designed to go under the rugs and aid in keeping the animal warm. It is sometimes more economical if your situation applies, to purchase a light weight or medium weight rug and add the blanket under the rug for extra warmth. When purchasing one of these, take note of the size of the horse it is to fit. Make sure that it will reach well below its stomach, and that it has been designed with a good overlap at the front for maximum protection.
There is also the combination turnout rugs which have a neck cover that is either part of it, or the ones where the neck cover can be removed when necessary. Some of the designs also have pleats in the shoulder area allowing the horse to have some extra freedom with their movement.
These rugs are made of a material called rip stop, which has been designed to minimise those tears which often happen on something sharp. Some of the older style coats were made from a synthetic type of material which was apt to tear at times. These are quite alright if there is no possibility of sharp edges where the horse is being kept.
