And second, tutoring help the student learn new things in order to get ahead of the pack. No matter the reason for deciding on tutoring, it's best that the sessions should be properly planned in order to get the best results. Here are some strategies that can be adopted when tutoring.

If you are the one that will facilitate the training, then consider some training first. You will be far effective if you are update with the latest trends and strategies in tutoring. When you are about to start the teaching session, try to introduce first the expectations for the sessions and ask for the expectations of the student. Rules should be in place and these rules should keep the sessions in order. It is best that these rules are carefully laid out to the participants, and it would be better if these are posted within the walls of the room. Though you are the one that will decide on the rules, it is still best that these rules should be mutually agreed upon.

This is not just about you, the teacher. This is more about the learner or the student. Before tackling down the subject matter at hand, consider first the strengths and the weaknesses of the leaner. Can you identify the situations where the learner can best pick up the subject matter? What are his or her limitations? These are some questions that should be raised before heading on the actual tutoring session.

As you go along with the tutoring sessions, it is best if trust and relationships are properly established. There will always be differences between you and the student, so don't make it a point to change the student overnight. As mentioned, check out their learning styles and adopt these styles. Also don't try to be hard on the student if he or she finds it hard to follow and cope up with the lessons. Pace your discussions in a way that he or she will eventually learn. And when your student gets it right, learn to give positive feedbacks. Success should be identified tutoring sessions and the efforts expended by the student should be praised and recognized. And of course, learn to appreciate accomplishments if there are any.
