Two Keys to Being a God With Your Death Knight in PvP

The Death Knight class was introduced with the Lich King expansion as the first hero class. When the first DKs hit the level cap they simply dominated PvP due to the mechanics of the class. Since then the class has seen significant changes and with it the mechanics. Undoubtedly, with the right set of tactics you can still be a threat in PvP.

Proper Use of Death Grip

The most important thing to remember as a DK in PvP is that you NEVER want to open with Death Grip. In nearly every match-up imaginable, it is a poor way to start the fight as you leave yourself wide open to kiting or unable to close ground against an opponent that is skilled at gaining ground. Mages particularly have multiple ways to get away from you, so it is important to use death grip properly.

The main reason many people use death grip is as a gap closer. Without a doubt, in many match-ups this will be your primary use. Quite a few classes have ways to get out of melee range with you, which they need simply because you are capable of putting out a lot of damage fast. The best time to use death grip in these situations is right after they use an ability to get some distance. This will often put them on the back foot for a few seconds while they try to find another way to escape. This may be the opening you need to finish the player off.

Another great use for Death Grip is as a situational interrupt. As it stands DKs have two main interrupts with one being on a long cooldown. Death grip can be used to stop any long spell casts and drag the target into melee range for you to beat on for a bit.

Proper Control of Your Pets

A ghoul is a DK's best friend if used properly, but can be worthless if you do not have control over it. It is important to have keybinds and macros set up to have your pet target who you want to target. Being able to have your pet pop totems, give healers a headache, or help you burn down a target is important to your success.

You should know that your gargoyle can also be controlled. It does take some finesse and a proper macro to really make it shine, but if done properly it can really help you out in a pinch.

While there are more keys to fighting as a DK, these two things can have you well on your way to improving your performance in PvP. Mastery of Death Grip will easily distinguish yourself as one of the better DKs while having your pet where you need it to be at all times will propel you to the elite.
