Let me in on a little secret that most people you know won't tell you about when it comes to buying an engagement ring

. The idea of spending two month's salary on it went the way of the dodo bird. In these economically trying times, do you really think that's a wise idea? You're certainly going to be better off if you wise up now and start looking at cheap engagement rings. And believe me, when I say cheap rings, I'm not talking poorly made with shoddy design, like some early '90's television made in some sweatshop somewhere, destined to catch fire the first time you plugged in your VCR (remember, we're talking early '90's.) But what's reasonable, you ask me. Reasonable is what you can afford, what fits into your lifestyle, not to mention the lifestyle you're about to have as part of duo. Affordable engagement rings are just that, affordable. Look, do you really want to go into debt right before you get married? Of course not. That's why you need to be shopping cheap engagement rings.

Look, it was one thing, back in the olden days of tradition when entire families would pay for the couple's wedding. Then it made sense. Well, as much sense as going into debt ever does. But odds are you and the little lady is paying for the shindig. Why fork out extra money when you don't need to? Cheap engagement rings are the way to go.

Besides, with all due respect, do you know what constitutes cheap engagement rings anyway? You spend a lot of time researching the cost of rings, what diamonds are trading for these days, how much gold is going for an ounce? Yeah I didn't think so. And this isn't a matter of 'I'll buy the middle priced item, so I'll look smart yet frugal and impress the salesman.'The only person you need to impress is the woman you get down on one knee in front of and ask 'Will you?' And if it's this far in the relationship, I'm willing to bet she isn't thinking 'He looked at cheap engagement rings."She's thinking' About time!"

People will say that the ring is an investment, and it is. An investment in a marriage and a future, not what the ring is going to be worth if you need to pawn it. Affordable rings are perfect first step to that future. The money you save now by looking at cheap engagement rings is money that you and her will be able to spend in other places, like hiring a real deejay for your wedding instead of just putting your iPod on shuffle.
