Two New Ports-of-entry For Nonimmigrant Aliens At Oakland International Airport And Saipan
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has announced the addition of two new ports-of-entry
for non-immigrant aliens. The two new ports-of-entry (POE) are located at Oakland International Airport in California and Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. A notice was issued by the Custom and Border Protection on August 8, 2009 that mentioned that there were 115 ports-of-entry for non-immigrant aliens. This new announcement adds two more POEs to the existing number.
Certain non-immigrants who want to immigrate to the United States are subject to special registration requirements. When these aliens arrive in the United States, they should provide particular information to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) about their Visa status. Fingerprints and photographs of these
non-immigrant aliens will be taken during the verification process. These aliens will also be asked to appear for in-person verification or a re-registration interview. Details regarding change of address, employment, and educational institution should be submitted to the Department of Homeland Security. Non-immigrants also have to report to the DHS before their departure to close their registration.
Non-immigrant aliens, who are subject to special registration and have not yet departed from the United States, can seek relief from the departure control requirement for that admission by applying to the US. Aliens who were not able to depart should prove that exigent or unusual circumstances exist that prevents or delays their departure. While departing from the US, these non-immigrants, who are subject to special registration requirements, should report to the inspecting officer at the POE.
According to the notice, Oakland International Airport in California will serve as a POE from November 25, 2009. Effective November 28, 2009, Saipan in the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands is designated as a port-of-entry. These two new POEs are authorized to provide final registration and departure of non-immigrant aliens subject to special registration for USA Immigration.
