Types Of Gynecomastia Recovery - Patients - Risks

There are many gynecomastia patients who are men that never lost the extra bit of puffiness they had on their chest while going through puberty

. These people cannot see the outline of their pecs no matter what they do, even if they are fit or work out. Other men that may have this problem may be a result of steroid use for weight lifting. These steroids can cause a rapid growth of breast tissue. For the men that weight lift, they can usually feel a very firm "marble" or "walnut." Woman-like breasts as a side-effect of some recreational drugs or prescription medications are suffered by many other men.

There are three choices for anesthesia: IV sedation, local, and general. Patients prefer to have general anesthesia used more of the time. Patients wake up quickly and are almost never nauseated with new developments in anesthesia. Men's chests are frequently sensitive to pain, so it appears that a more complete and thorough improvement can be completed when men are asleep. If there is just a small amount of breast tissue beneath the nipple, however, then that can typically be removed comfortably under local anesthesia. The pain felt after the male breast reduction treatment is generally fairly mild. The feeling will resemble if you've been punched in the chest or that of having worked out too hard. A typical patient will describe it as more sore than painful. Your plastic surgeon will provide you with pain medication as well.

Directly following your surgery, the plastic surgeon will place a special foam pad over your chest and a vest over that. The original dressing will be left in place for about two days. You will remove the vest, wash it, throw away the foam, and put the vest back on during the second day after surgery. The bruising and swelling will go away faster, the longer you wear the compression garment. In general, plastic surgeons will request that the patient wear some compression night and day for the first month. You won't always need to wear the surgical vest that your cosmetic surgeon provided you with however. Many men purchase a tight spandex or nylon undershirt that fits them tightly and underneath their clothing.

Most men will have some bruising and discoloration over their chest, while others will have barely any bruising at all. If there is bruising, it will likely subside between 10 and 14 days after the procedure is performed. You will have a scar located around the lower half of your areola if you've had an excision. The sutures are all dissolvable and hidden beneath the skin. If there is any hair at all, this is usually well concealed.
