USA Green Card to be redesigned by the USCIS
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services(USCIS) have recently announced that the Green Card will be redesigned. The Green Card which is officially termed, the Permanent Resident Card has been redesigned to add in new and enhanced security features.
The Green Card redesign is the result of the joint effort put in by the USCIS along with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Screening Coordination Office, and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Forensic Document Laboratory.
To help avert fraudulent practices in immigration, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has brought about a change in the Green Card design. As the new card incorporates the state-of-art technology, it will stop counterfeiting, obstruct tampering and will also help speeden up the authentication process. Commencing May 11, 2010, the USCIS has started issuing the new Green Cards.
Alejandro Mayorkas, the Director of USCIS, is of the opinion that the integrity of the immigration services will be maintained through the Green Card redesign. The employers, immigrants, and law enforcement forces will be offered better service with the new Green card which incorporates many improved features.
The Green Card redesign holds many benefits. To facilitate quicker and dependable identification of the immigrants, social optical media will store the biometrics of the individuals. The use of new technologies, such as holographic images, high resolution micro image and laser scanned fingerprints has made replication of the card very difficult. Additionally, to prevent the card from being altered if stolen, it is integrated tighter than before.
With Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) capability the Customs and Border Protection officers can read the card from a distance and confirm if it concurs with the file data. A lost card can be easily returned with the help of a preprinted return address.
The Permanent Resident Card has been colored green to recognize the card easily. Once an individual applies for renewal or replacement, the USCIS will replace the Green Cards that are already in circulation.
