Uk Traffic Accidents

Thousands of UK traffic accidents occur each year

, and most of them are avoidable. Up to 90% of all road traffic accidents are caused by driver error, and there are some simple steps you can take to avoid causing or being involved in a road collision.

1.Many people prefer to drive at night, particularly if they are going on a long journey, as the roads are quieter. However, although there is less traffic around in the middle of the night, you are more likely to suffer fatigue at the wheel when it is dark, particularly when driving down unlit roads. Weigh up all the options before you decide on a night-time drive.

2.Blind spots can cause fatal accidents. Adjust your rear view mirror and your side mirrors to give you a clear view of the traffic and road behind, and before manoeuvring, look directly at the lanes beside you, so you can see any nearby vehicles that are not visible in your mirrors. Also, if you are travelling on a motorway, consider the blind spots of other drivers, particularly lorry drivers, who will not be able to see you easily if your vehicle is next to theirs.

3.Never be tempted to drive with one hand on the wheel, or you will find it almost impossible to control your vehicle if you have to stop quickly or avoid another car. Keep two hands on the wheel at a 9 oclock and 3 oclock position, which will allow you to move quickly out of danger if you need to.

4.If you spot a car in front of you that is in poor condition, maybe with dented body work and a dirty windscreen, it could indicate an inattentive driver. Also, if a driver is weaving between lanes, keep your distance or pass them when it is safe to do so, avoiding an accident.

5.Avoiding road rage is vital if you want to avoid accidents. Even if you are not at fault, never pursue a driver on the road who you think is guilty of a traffic offence. Let him pass and continue on your journey. If you are being pursued by another driver, pull over where it is safe to do so and preferably in an area where there are other people around.

6.Car maintenance is vital if you want to avoid road traffic accidents. Make sure your tyres have enough tread on them, ensure your brake pads are not grating, and always check your lights and indicators regularly in case bulbs need replacing and check your oil and water. If you suspect there is something seriously wrong with your car, get a qualified mechanic to check it out, and never ignore it.

7.Night time driving comes with its own hazards. Many people prefer to travel at night when there is less traffic on the roads, but never undertake long, night time journeys if you are tired. Fatigue accounts for hundreds of accidents in the UK each year, often with serious consequences.

8.Always keep your distance from the driver in front. If they stop unexpectedly because of a traffic queue, roadworks or an accident ahead, you will have trouble stopping if you are too close. Many injuries each year are caused by rear-end shunts, which can result in multiple motorway pile ups.

9.Distractions in the car are also another major cause of accidents. If you want to make a phone call, send a text message, eat or drink, pull over at a safe spot first. Loud music and loud children can also be major distractions, but never try to deal with the problem while you are driving or you can cause a serious accident.

10.Keep to the speed limits. If you break the speed limit every time you drive, you are likely to have an accident, and get a fine. Speed limits are set for a reason. If you are driving too fast and the car in front comes to a sudden stop, or is involved in an accident, you wont be able to stop in time.

Personal injuries deal with thousands of cases of car crash accident compensation each year, and if you have been involved in an accident which was not your fault, and caused injuries, you can make a claim for substantial damages. Use a no win, no fee solicitor and it wont cost you a penny.
