Understanding The After Hours Surcharges Of A Courier Company

Courier companies are operated under a number of different structures when it comes to the hours that they keep

. There are many small courier companies such as bicycle messengers which might only work from early in the morning until five or six at night. Most couriers work until at least 10:00 or 11:00 PM, and others are 24 hours. However, even if a San Diego courier service closes at a certain time, they usually will have a way for you to get a hold of them for late, after hour's emergencies. In most cases, though, you're going to have to pay extra for such a service.

Courier companies realize that business emergencies can arise, and they don't want you to have to go to another provider in order to meet your needs if you should have such an emergency. That is why most couriers will have an on-call staff to meet after hours deliver emergencies. Most companies will have a number on their website or on their automated phone line that will tell you who to call if you require a special after hour's delivery.

Because most couriers don't keep people on staff around the clock though, they will probably have to bring in someone special just to make your delivery. That is why these types of deliveries almost always cost extra. It is impossible to judge just how much though, as they may either have a straight fee for any after hour's deliveries, or they may increase your orders cost by a percentage.

If you have a lot of after hour delivery needs, it may be time to think about courier alternatives that may be available to you. Instead of a courier that closes before midnight, you may want to look into a 24 hour courier. There are many of these available now, and they may be the answer that you're looking for.

A 24 hour courier may cost more on their base deliveries because they have higher costs that they are faced with as a result of keeping their business open 24 hours a day. However, the upswing to this is that if you have regular after hour's deliveries to make, they won't cost any more in most cases than one made in the middle of the day. This can result in a substantial savings for your business depending on how many deliveries you are called upon by your customers to make in the middle of the night.
