Unemployment Benefits Some Determining Factors For Filing A Claim
Are you jobless and planning on filing an unemployment claim
? If the answer is yes, then before you even make that move, you can easily determine all your unemployment benefits before you complete and file an unemployment application and claim just by making a few calculations. In many states, the factors for determining these claims are based upon the wages that have been earned within a base year period. This base year consist of either the first four quarter period, or 12 months duration. Or it can be based on a five quarter, or 15 months period. With these calculations, you can get a roundabout estimate of how much you can expect from these unemployment claims. But at the same time, do not completely rely on this estimate because the federal state may have other formulas in hand to determine your claims. So in order to get a close estimate, following the states labor department with help get a figure close to what your calculation draws up for you.
Consider a date you wish to file your unemployment claims, and after you have decided on the date of filing, you need to establish a base year period of your own with that date. With the date selected in your mind, count backward from that date 15 months to select the first four quarters as your base year, or you can count the first 12 months. Now that you have determined and established your base year, from all the jobs you have worked on in that first four quarters you established, collect income statements, pay stubs and W2s. Now that you have the statements and stubs, you need to tally all your wages with all the jobs you have worked on during this four quarter period. Out of these four quarters, there will be one when you have earned the highest. Enter that amount into a calculator and multiply it with 4%. This will determine your unemployment benefits on weekly basis.
The standard amount of weeks for which any recipient can receive this unemployment insurance is 26. Multiply the amount you got with 26 to claim your benefits. Write down the total you get. Now you need to add your wages from all four quarters within the established base year, and multiply the total amount by 40%. Jot down the answer that you get.
If by any means, you do not file an application for unemployment claims, then the amount you can potentially receive will be less than the two totals. So now it is up to you to decide what is better? Can you make it without filing a claim, or will you need to file a claim to get back on the stability road? Once you decide what is better for you, make your move. But be sure you get in touch with your local unemployment office or states labor department. It will help you get an idea about how the federal state computes these unemployment claims.
