Unique Silver Rings with Added Meaning: Engraving Your Silver Ring

Most of us have a host of silver rings in our jewellery chest - some with gemstones, some with a touch of filigree or goldfill, some with the latest nature-inspired design. In one sense, all are unique silver rings, just as each of our fingerprints is unique and yet, in another, sometimes we want to invest a particular silver ring with special meaning.

Engraving has its origins in the posie ring (sometimes spelled "posy ", "posey" or "poesy rings") so called because they had a line of poetry ("poesy", in older versions of the English language) engraved on them. Initially, these unique silver rings carried their message where all could see it, on their outer surface.

Amongst the most common things to have engraved on such unique silver rings are names or initials, a date, a symbol, or a word or short phrase of meaning to you. If you are searching for a phrase to have engraved on your chosen, or favorite, silver ring, to make it unique, you can draw upon some of the phrases used by lovers of earlier centuries found on gold and silver rings in the collections of Great Britain's museums (and with spelling updated for the 21st century): "never to change"; "hope is the life of love"; "all I refuse and thee I choose"; "faithless to none yet faithful to one"; and "in thy breast my heart doth rest". You can also take inspiration from the unique silver ring that Edward, Duke of Windsor, gave to the woman for his love he abdicated the throne: "we are ours now".

Rings come in all shapes and sorts of decoration, but the most unique silver rings are the ones we mark with the signs of our love.
