Unsure of Apnea? 10 Warning Signs of Snoring and Sleep Apnea

Many people think of snoring as annoying, with little thought about the root cause

or what it could signify, especially when snoring and sleep apnea are coupled together. The truth is, snoring could be accompanying a very serious condition of sleep apnea, with ten vital warning signs that alert there is a serious health problem occurring. Sleep apnea snoring conditions could actually cause you to stop breathing during sleep, which could cause a fatality or other serious effects.

The 10 Vital Warning Signs:

Sleep apnea is something that is still well misunderstood. There are a great many people suffering from the condition, however only 2% to 4% of cases will be diagnosed and treated properly. There are several treatments, but the first thing to do is ensure that the true issue is apnea snoring, which could be very dangerous if left unnoticed.

1. Loud and chronic snoring. If your sleeping partner is complaining about extremely loud snoring almost every time you go to sleep, you could be suffering from snoring and sleep apnea together. This is the first indicator that there may be a serious issue which should be treated.

2. Snoring is intermittent with pauses. If you notice that your partner is snoring loudly, then stops at a pause every so often, releasing a large amount of air when the snoring restarts, you may want to alert them of a possible problem.

3. Excessive daytime sleepiness. If you are getting the recommended 8 hours of sleep each night, however, still find yourself extremely sleepy during the day, you could be suffering from apnea snoring. This could be causing you to stop breathing during the night, causing your body to tire out before you even wake up.

4. Awakenings with gasping or choking. There are many people suffering from snoring and apnea that will find they are waking up in the middle of the night gasping or choking. This is a serious indicator that there is an issue of apnea snoring. When this symptom begins, treatment must be immediately pursued.

5. Fragmented, non-refreshing light sleep. If you are frequently falling asleep just to wake right back up a few minutes later, you could be suffering from the condition, which is causing you to stop breathing before you even get into a deep sleep. This halt in breathing will cause you to wake up, which could cause severe insomnia.

6. Poor memory, clouded intellect. If you are suffering from apnea, accompanied by snoring, you will find that your memory is severely affected, causing your mind to be clouded during the day. This is due to the lack of oxygen during the night.

7. Irritability, personality changes. This is a warning sign that you are losing sleep and your oxygen flow is disrupted during the night, a strong indicator of apnea. Strong snoring complaints will confirm the condition.

8. Decreased sex drive, impotence. As you are losing oxygen to your brain and losing sleep, you will find that your sex drive decreases, if exists at all.

9. Morning headaches. If you hold your breath for a few seconds a few times in a row, you will find that you are struck with a headache. This is the same effect of apnea snoring, indicating there is an issue.

10. Gastro-esophageal reflux (GERD). Acid reflux can cause a great deal of discomfort and pain and is usually accompanied by the other warning signs that will definitely demonstrate there is an issue of apnea with snoring.

If these warning signs indicate you may have apnea then finding a highly effective sleep apnea cure is the next step. Although CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) and surgery are often prescribed to treat apnea, both of these options are highly invasive and can have negative side effects.

Using an oral appliance that is designed to stop both snoring and sleep apnea can provide a highly efficient, effective, and noninvasive measure to treat the condition. However, in order to stop sleep apnea, you want to ensure that you are using the most effective snoring mouthpiece available.
