Usb Cable - The Connection Norm

Universal Serial Bus; that is the meaning of the acronym USB

. With USB, a communication between devices and a host controller, which is usually a personal computer, is established. The cable was invented to replace serial and parallel ports. These ports are for transporting data bits between the personal computer and other computer peripherals such as a printer. Therefore a USB cable is very useful because it has eliminated the need for multiple types of connectors and cables that one might need to utilize all of the devices needed to connect to a personal computer. In many instances, the standard connecting method has become USB.

Smartphones, mice, video game consoles, media players, external hard drives, keyboards and printers are just a few of all of the devices that can now be connected USB cables. When connecting devices through connection sites, or hubs, on the host (i.e. personal computer), communication with the devices begins and the user can move freely between them. However, no data can be transferred without explicit approval using the host. With these cables available and the standard connection moving towards USB, there is an endless limit to what one can connect to and generate.

The good quality about the USB cable is that is difficult to attach the USB connector upside down. When the plug and the socket are correctly together, there is a sensation of knowing a proper connection has been made. However, without being able to see the installation, it is difficult to see if the connector is right side up. Therefore, one will generally have to try inserting the cable both ways. Yet, the USB icon should be facing up while installing. Also, there is peace knowing that these cables are durable. Without having to carefully make sure that pins are place correctly with concern of breaking or bending, makes using the cables stress free.

When using a cable, one might find that one end is a type A receptacles which are the universal USB plug and the other end has type B variety cable. These two ends are purposely different. The connectors are produced by various vendors that deal with items such as: cell phones, cameras and external hard drives. However, the cable itself does have an electrical specification to meet, but no maximum length to abide by. Yet, with longer length, the delay of data will be greater. Overall, when choosing a long USB cable, be ready to have many choices and many devices to connect because the USB has become the connection norm.
